St. Anthony, T-town, Altamont Nab Girls Wins

Effingham St. Anthony High School successfully opened the girls basketball season with a 56-32 win over Dieterich Tuesday evening.
The Bulldogs edged out to a 15-7 opening quarter lead and led 24-14 at halftime. St. Anthony then took off in the third period with a 17-8 charge.
Three players hit double figures for the Bulldogs. Guy led the way with 16 points while Richards added 13 and McHugh 10. McHugh led the way in assists with five and steals with five. Kinkelaar had four assists and two blocked shots. Repking had 10 rebounds.
Dieterich was led by Bierman with 11 points.
"It was a great game by our girls," said St. Anthony Coach Bart Wiedman. "They were constantly finding another gear on the offensive end. You can never be disappointed by only giving up 25 points."
St. Anthony also claimed the junior varsity game, 39-25.

At Newton
Teutopolis stepped out to a 16-4 opening quarter lead and that was the game as the Wooden Shoes opened their season with a 57-22 win over Newton Tuesday.
Morgan Mette, Lexie Niebrugge and Hannah Pruemer produced 10 points each in even scoring for the Shoes. Karsyn Mette led in rebounding with five. Savannah Grimes had three steals.
Newton was led by Jansen with six points. Carr had five rebounds while Zumbahlen had three. Harris led in assists with two.
Teutopolis also was a winner in junior varsity action, 48-17.

Altamont picked up its opening season victory by beating Vandalia, 51-25 Tuesday evening.
The Indians moved into a 16-6 opening quarter lead and led 31-15 at halftime.
Altamont hit 42 percent from the field and 40 percent from the free throw line.
Leading the way in scoring were Tinley Mette with 14 and Brooke Runge with 13. Allyson Hardiek chipped in with nine. Hardiek led in blocked shots with four and rebounds with nine. Mette had four steals

Olney picked up a 63-38 victory over North Clay (Louisville) in opening season action Tuesday.
Olney edged out to a 13-11 opening quarter lead but put together a 20-6 second period and never looked back.
Blank led the Tigers with 17 points while Black added 16 and Hughes 12.
North Clay was led by Lewis with 13 and Lovett with 13.
