MARSHALL -- Effingham Junior High School's eighth-grade girls basketball team competed in the Marshall Shootout Saturday.
The Mustangs downed host Marshall, 45-24. Effingham trailed Marshall 17-16 at halftime then had a 13-5 third quarter and 16-2 final period.
Ella Niebrugge led Effingham with 16 points while Marissa Allie scored 10.
In the second game, Effingham handed Salt Fork a 35-17 loss. The Hearts led 18-12 at halftime. Niebrugge tallied eight for the winners.
In seventh-grade action, Effingham trounced Marshall, 42-6.
The Mustangs led 30-2 at halftime. Volpi scored 12 while Hodge and Moser tallied seven points each.
Effingham then claimed a 32-17 win over Sidell Salt Fork.
The Mustangs had a 12-2 second period run and held Salt Fork to a point in the third quarter.
Moser tallied 11 points for the Mustangs who improved to 13-4.
