Altamont and St. Elmo/Brownstown advanced to the championship game of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament after both picked up victories Monday evening.
Altamont downed Cowden-Herrick 50-28. Altamont had a strong first half taking a 36-10 lead and never looked back.
Altamont was led by one player in double figures, Armstrong with 11. Blackerby led Cowden-Herrick with 14.
In the second game, St. Elmo/Brownstown downed Beecher City 38-18. St. Elmo/Brownstown held a 10-point halftime lead. Kroll tallied 12 and Feezel 11 for the winners. Grove led Beecher City with eight.
Altamont and St. Elmo/Brownstown advance to the champoinship game scheduled for Thursday at 8 p.m. Cowden-Herrick and Beecher City will square off for third place at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
The tourney continues tonight with consolation round play as Dieterich faces Stewardson-Strasburg at 6 p.m. and Effingham Sacred Heart takes on Windsor at 7:15 p.m.

At Greenville
Effingham opened the 65th Annual James Burke Memorial Boys Basketball Tournament with a 57-36 win over host Greenville.
The Mustangs jumped out to an 18-5 opening quarter lead then had a 20-8 third period run. Donaldson tallied 20 points while Wolfe had 10. Wolfe led in steals with five. Osborn and Koenig had six rebounds each.
The Mustangs improve to 17-1 and will now face Aviston at 6 p.m. Thursday in semifinal action.

At Monticello
Teutopolis split victories with Monticello in seventh and eighth-grade action Monday evening.
Monticello was a 44-30 winner in the seventh-grade contest. Haarman tallied 15 for the winners. Teutopolis was led by Lee Hardiek with 11.
Iin eighth-grade play, Teutopolis broke a 15-15 halftime tie with an 11-8 third quarter run and went on for a 38-27 win.
Mitch Hardiek scored 10 points to lead T-town.
