EHS Picks Up Frosh/Soph Boys Victories

MATTOON -- Effingham traveled to Mattoon and picked up both freshman and sophomore boys basketball victories Monday evening.
The Hearts claimed the freshman contest 47-39. EHS held a 15-5 opening quarter lead but Mattoon came back for a 19-18 halftime lead. The Hearts then had a 29-20 second half run.
EHS was led by Michael Woltman and Jared Minor with 12 points each. Sean Zerrusen chipped in with nine.
In the sophomore game, Effingham captured a 49-34 victory. The Hearts held a slight 18-13 first half lead then had a 16-6 third quarter run to outdistance the Green Wave.
Kevin Daugherty tallied 11 for the winners while Luis Ramos chipped in with nine.
