Effingham Junior High School handed North Clay (Louisville) two losses in girls basketball action Monday.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest, 31-20. EJHS led 8-4 in the opening quarter and held North Clay scoreless for a 14-4 halftime lead.

Moser led the way with 10 points while Volpi chipped in with seven for the Mustangs.

Ballard led North Clay with nine points.

In eighth-grade action, Effingham pulled out an overtime victory, 31-28. North Clay took a 17-10 first half lead and led 25-19 going into the final quarter. The Mustangs had a 6-0 run to tie the score, sending the contest into overtime.

In the overtime period, Effingham continued its scoring run with a 6-3 count.

Courtney Beck led the way for the Mustangs with nine points while Ella Niebrugge added eight.

North Clay was led by Conley with 11 and Ballard with eight.

At Findlay

Stewardson-Strasburg and Okaw Valley split victories Monday evening.

Stew-Stras won the seventh-grade encounter 29-21. Stew-Stras took an 18-7 opening half lead and had an 11-2 third quarter.

Kinkelaar scored 18 for the winners who improve to 12-4 on the season.

In the eighth-grade game, Okaw Valley tallied a 21-16 victory. Stew-Stras drops to 3-11 on the season.

Kinkelaar led Stew-Stras with eight points.

At Sullivan

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City won over Sullivan, 37-23 in seventh-grade action Monday.

CHBC edged out to a 12-10 halftime lead then had a 12-0 third quarter run. Ruby Stuckemeyer tallied 17 points while Marissa  Summers added eight. CHBC improved to 10-5.

In the eighth-grade contest, CHBC was a 43-14 winner.

CHBC was led by Gracie Heckert with 11 and Jady Wojcik with seventh. CHBC improves to 13-2.

Altamont claimed two wins over host South Central Monday evening.

Altamont won the seventh-grade game, 46-30. Grace Nelson got Altamont started off in the right direction, scoring 12 of her team's 14 points in the opening quarter. Nelson finished with 25. South Central was led by Webster with 12.

In eignth-grade action, Altamont captured a 56-47 victory. Altamont zoomed out to a 30-12 halftime lead and then had to hold off a charging South Central in the second half.

Nelson scored 26 and Lanie Tedrick 12 for the winners. South Central was led by Webster with 17 and Lewis with 12.

At Kinmundy

At Newton

Jasper County claimed two victories over visiting Dieterich Monday evening.

Jasper County was a 24-9 winner in seventh-grade action. Jasper County led 9-5 at halftime then had a 14-2 third period run.

Jasper County was led by Oldham with seven points. Dieterich was led by Miley Britton, Eva Meinhart, Veronica Miramontes and Ruby Westendorf with two each.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County claimed a 25-17 win. Dieterich held an 11-7 first half lead but Jasper County had a 14-2 third period.

Alaina Kuhl scored 10 for the winners. Morgan Esker led Dieterich with seven.
