BSE Claims NTC Eighth-Grade Girls Tourney

BEECHER CITY -- Brownstown/St. Elmo claimed the championship of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

BSE handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a 25-22 loss in the title contest. BSE trailed 13-8 at halftime then had a 10-5 third quarter run and outscored CHBC 7-4 in the final period.

Beall led the way with eight points for the winners while Stine added seven. CHBC was led by Heckert with 13.

In the third place game, North Clay (Louisville) scored a 28-21 win over Altamont.

Altamont took a 10-8 opening half lead but North Clay turned things around in the second half with a 14-6 third period run.

Ballard and Czyzenski scored nine points each for the winners. Altamont was led by Nelson with nine.

In the consolation championship, Sigel St. Michael edged South Central, 36-35.

South Central moved ahead 16-13 at halftime and held a 24-20 lead going into the final quarter. The Sharpshooters came alive and outscored South Central 16-11 to pull out the win.

Niebrugge tallied 22 while Bueker added 11 for the Sharpshooters. South Central was led by Arnold and Garrett with 12 points each.

In Friday action, South Central downed Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor, 35-24. South Central was led by Garrett with 12 and Arnold with 10.

Stew-Stras/Windsor was led by Wernsing and Richards with six each.

BSE then handed North Clay a 23-21 loss. Baldridge scored 10 for the winners. North Clay was led by Conley with seven.
