Salem scored the first 5 points of the game, but that was short lived as Effingham outscored Salem 19-4 the rest of the quarter and never looked back with a dominating 71-44 over the Wildcats. The scored quarter was much of the same as the Hearts outscored the Wildcats by 12 and the Hearts got a balanced scoring attack as they placed 7 different players in the scoring column to take a 39-17 halftime lead.

Hunter Kieth lead the way in the 3rd as he tallied 8 of the Hearts 18 points in the quarter. With the 7 point advantage in the quarter the Hearts pushed the lead to 29. Salem outscored Effingham 15-14 in the final quarter, but the Hearts secured their 10th victory against 4 loses and pushed their Apollo conference record to 5-0.

Salem falls to 2-11 on the season and 2-3 in the Apollo.

Effingham was very effective on both ends of the court while shooting over 60% from the field, and was strong defensively as well by forcing 21 Salem turnovers.

The Hearts return to action next Wednesday as they open the Salem tournament with a game against Mt. Vernon at 6:00 PM. This game will be aired on 979 XFM, and online by clicking the Listen Live button at the top-right of the page.
