Effingham Junior High School handed Sigel St. Michael two losses in girls basketball action Monday.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest 28-20. Volpi and Boone led the way with seven points each. St. Michael was led by Holze with five.

In eighth-grade competition, the Mustangs won 38-19. Ella Niebrugge scored 10 while Madison Mapes and Courtney Beck had seven each for the winners. Niebrugge led the Sharpshooters with 17.

At Altamont

Altamont picked up two victories over Effingham St. Anthony.

Altamont won the seventh-grade encounter 42-39. The score was tied at 33-33 going into the final quarter when Altamont's Nelson took over and scored seven of the team's nine points for the win. Nelson finished with 19 while Osteen added 12.

St. Anthony was led by A. Geen with 12 and M. Kibler with nine.

In eighth-grade play, Altamont picked up a 39-34 victory. Altamont held an 11 point lead going into the final quarter.

Nelson tallied 22 and Becker 10 for the winners. St. Anthony was led by Schwing with 12 and Fearday with 10.
