Newton Downs Paris, C-W Wins in LIC Tourney

NEWTON -- Newton handed Paris a 57-40 loss in girls basketball competition Wednesday evening.
The Eagles took a 16-11 opening quarter lead and expanded that to 29-19 at halftime. The Eagles continued their momentum in the second half with a 28-21 scoring edge.
Carly Niebrugge and Morgan Swingler scored 14 each for the winners while Megan Jansen tallied 12. Niebrugge pulled down nine rebounds while Tara Wirth had seven. Niebrugge and Jansen had three steals each.
The Eagles are now 14-7 on the season.

At Casey
Casey-Westfield blasted Edwards County (Albion) 50-14 in opening round play of the Little Illini Conference Tournament.
The Warriors jumped out to a 15-4 opening quarter lead and had a 12-5 second period run and a 23-5 third period tally. Birchfield led Casey-Westfield with 16 points while Decker added 13.
Casey-Westfield advances to face Flora at 3 p.m. Saturday. Edwards County drops into the consolation bracket and will play Monday at 7 p.m.
