Lady Hearts Win 10th Straight

The Effingham Lady Hearts won their 10th straight game Monday night, defeating the Charleston Lady Trojans 65-35 in action at EHS Gym. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.
The teams traded baskets at the start of the contest, but the Hearts soon took control of the game, leading 19-7 after one quarter, 37-14 at halftime, and 52-23 after three quarters before outscoring the Lady Trojans 13-12 in the fourth quarter.
Effingham shot 44% from the field, made four of seven foul shots, committed 18 turnovers and made five of 13 three-point attempts. The most amazing stat is that the Lady Hearts grabbed 47 rebounds in the contest.
Charleston shot just 29% from the field, making 15 of 51 attempts and just three of 10 from the line while turning the ball over 20 times.
Nine of the 11 Hearts who played scored Monday night. Josie Zerrusen led the way with a double-double, hitting for 18 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Kelli Utz scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Also for the Lady Hearts: Stephanie Robb 8, Lauren Stephenson 6, Caitlin Kaufman and Maddy Field 5 each, Felicia Totten 4, Taylor Willis 3, and Morgan Weiser 2.
McClain Miller with 12 and Morgan Sherwood with 10 paced Charleston, now 5-13 on the season.
Effingham improved to 14-3 on the season. After losing their first two games of the season, the Lady Hearts have won 14 of their last 15 games.
Effingham won the JV game 42-21. Lauren Stephenson and Maddy Field each scored 9 points, Britanny Beals 7, Savannah Devore and Marranda Steffen 6 each, and Shelby Nunamaker 5.
