Dieterich Boys, Girls Tournaments Open

DIETERICH -- Delayed a day, the Dieterich Holiday tourneys got underway Thursday with six games in both the boys and girls meets.

Girls Tourney

Dieterich 44, Oblong 33

Dieterich took a 25-12 halftime lead and never looked back in this one. Candace Niemerg tallied 12 and Mallorie Vahling 10 for the winners.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 80, South Central 18

CHBC powered out to a 26-5 opening quarter lead. Micah Jones had an outstanding game for the Hornets with 44 points. She connected on 21 field goals and was two of three at the line.

Also in double figures were Autumn Riley and Ava Paruleski with 12 each. South Central was led by Macie Cain with eight points.

Arcola 62, North Clay 23

Only one player hit double figures in the contest. Arcola's Taylor Edwards connected on 11 field goals and was two of three at the line for 24 points.

The Purple Riders led 37-7 at halftime and never looked back. Kortney Stanfield led the Cougars with five points.

Newton 65, Oblong 46

Newton fought off a second half challenge by Oblong to pull out the victory. The Eagles led 43-17 at halftime but Oblong came back with a 29-22 second half run.

Morgan Swingler tallied 16  points for the winners while Megan Jansen had 13 and Emily Kerner 11.

CHBC 65, North Clay 46

Jones continued her hot scoring with 23 points for the winners while teammate Paruleski chipped in with 18 and Riley with 14.

The Hornets led 38-21 at halftime. North Clay was led by Stanfield with 14 and Carsan Bible with 12.

Dieterich 53, Casey-Westfield 47

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 26-23 halftime lead then had a 20-4 surge in the third quarter.

Candace Niemerg tallied 26 for the winners connecting on 11 field goals and was a perfect four of four at the line. Casey-Westfield was led by Kyleigh Decker with 24.

Boys Tournament

Dieterich 65, Beecher City 41

With a 10-point lead at halftime, Dieterich expanded on that with an 18-12 third quarter run and a 13-5 final period.

Dalton Hinterscher tallied 28 for the winners. The senior connected on seven field goals which included five three-pointers and was a perfect nine of nine at the line.

Beecher City was led by Brady Barnes with 19 and Donnie Riley with 10.

Christ Our Rock Lutheran 80, North Clay 65

Christ Our Rock Lutheran broke open a close game with a 23-16 second quarter run and outscored the Cardinals 44-35 in the second half. COR had four players in double figures, Mueller with 20, Klockunga with 17, Burmaster with 16 and Hahn with 16.

North Clay was led by Logan Hilderbrand with 18, Adam Cox with 15, Nathan Micklautz with 13 and Cody Yoho with 10.

Oblong 60, Beecher City 36

Oblong's Anthony Johnson was unstoppable in scoring 30 points to lead the winners over Beecher City.

Oblong broke open a close 27-21 halftime lead with a 19-6 third quarter run. Johnson connected on eight field goals, including four three-pointers, and was two of four at the line.

Beecher City was led by Doug Krueger with 13.

Newton 80, North Clay 67

The Eagles swept out to a 38-26 halftime lead and had a 23-16 third quarter run to down North Clay.

Dylan Davidson tallied 23 while Derek Schackman added 13, Keith Butler 13 and Dylan Johnson 12.

North Clay was led by Hildebrand with 17, Britton with 13, Rubsam with 12 and Yoho with 10.

Dieterich 57, Arcola 42

Dieterich had a bad opening quarter, trailing Arcola 9-5, but then broke loose in the second period with a 21-8 run.

Hinterscher scored 22 including 14 in the second quarter surge. Also in double figures were Bohnhoff with 12 and Westjohn with 10.
