Altamont Season Ends at Moweaqua Sectional

MOWEAQUA -- Nokomis High School took the lead early and never relented in a 55-40 win over Altamont in the Class 1A Moweaqua Central A&M Boys Basketball Sectional Tuesday evening.

The lead went to Nokomis in the opening quarter, 12-7 as four players scored. Mitchell Stevenson kept the Indians in the contest by scoring all seven points. Stevenson hit two three-pointers and a free throw.

The Redskins had a 10-7 second period to lead 22-14 at halftime. Once again, it was three different players who scored. Alek Biggs nailed five points in the period for Altamont.

The Indians got rolling in the third quarter as Biggs put in three trifectas and Denver Duckwitz hit a three-pointer while Stevenson tallied five points as he also put in a three-pointer. The Indians trailed 38-29 but were within striking distance.

However, Nokomis got back on track with a 17-11 final period to put the game away.

Altamont was led by Stevenson and Biggs with 17 points each. The Indians end the season with an 18-12 record.

Nokomis had three players in double figures. Brayden Sabol led with 16 while Carter Sabol added 12 and Kamden Ransdell scored 10

Tonight's contest will feature Dieterich against Moweaqua Central A&M at 7 p.m. The winner advances to face Nokomis Friday at 7 p.m. for the sectional championship.
