St. Anthony Finishes Conference Play With Win Over Altamont

The St. Anthony Bulldogs finished National Trail Conference play with a win Tuesday night, defeating the Altamont Indians 83-60 on Senior Night at the Enlow Center. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

Altamont hit a three-pointer to start the scoring, but St. Anthony scored the next 12 points and led for the rest of the contest. It was 30-19 Bulldogs after the first quarter, 47-29 at halftime, and 66-49 after three quarters before St. Anthony outscored Altamont 17-11 in the final quarter to win by 23.

St. Anthony used its big size advantage to great effect, outrebounding the Indians 46 to 20. Despite the uptempo nature of the game, St. Anthony committed just seven turnovers and Altamont only 12.

St. Anthony took 72 shots and made half of them, 36, for exactly 50% from the field including 7 of 20 threes. The Bulldogs took just eight foul shots and made just three of them. Altamont was 22 of 54 from the field, 41%, including 7 of 20 on threes. The Indians hit 9 of 10 foul shots.

The Bulldogs put eight players in the scoring column, led by Adam Levitt, who posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Alex Deters scored 19 points, Luke Ludwig 12, and Jack Nuxoll 10 with nine rebounds. Also for the Bulldogs: Alex Beesley 9, Cade Walsh 7, Brandon Runge 4, and Jaccob Dust 2.

For Altamont, Mitchell Stevenson led all scorers with 21 points. Alek Biggs scored 15 points and Aiden Jahraus added 12 points. Also for the Indians: Denver Duckwitz 5, Noah Teasley 5, and Kaleb Whitt 2.

St. Anthony improved to 25-2 and said thanks for many great memories to seniors Cade Walsh, Alex Deters, Adam Levitt, Alex Beesley, Jack Nuxoll, Brandon Runge, and Wyatt Lawrence, who played their final game at the Enlow Center. The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season at Casey-Westfield Friday night, then begin post-season play in the Vandalia 2A Regional next Tuesday night against the Monday night winner between Pana and Sullivan. 

Altamont is now 15-11 and finishes the regular season in conference action Friday against Windsor/Stew-Stras before heading to 1A Regional at Hutsonville Tuesday against Monday's Oblong/Cisne winner.

St. Anthony won the JV game 82-48. For the JV Bulldogs, Bryson Wall scored 16 points, Kaden Fearday 15, and Boatman scored 12. For Altamont, Kaden Eirhart scored 17 points and Tony Klitzing scored 14 points.
