Lincoln boys basketball coach Neil Alexander will remember his 800th career coaching victory. It was a game when the Effingham Hearts gave his Railsplitters all they wanted before falling to Lincoln 45-36. The contest was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

After Lincoln hit a three-point shot to take a 3-2 lead, Effingham grabbed back the lead and led the contest into the second half. Effingham was up 16-12 after the first quarter and still led 24-20 at halftime.

Lincoln held the Hearts to four points in the third quarter and had the game tied 28-28 at the end of the period. The Hearts got a three from Landon Wolfe well into the fourth quarter to pull back to within two, but Lincoln made its foul shots down the stretch to post the nine-point victory.

Lincoln put the clamps on Landon Wolfe in the second half. After scoring 13 points before intermission, Wolfe was held to six shots in the second half and only the one made three as far as points. Wolfe grabbed six rebounds. Mason Hull scored 13 points on five of eight shooting. Matt Robinson scored four points, but grabbed 10 rebounds. Cole Marxman scored two points and Ryan Sandifer scored one point. Logan Smith and Parker Wolfe also saw action for the Hearts, who slipped to 10-13 on the season.

6'9" junior Jermaine Hamlin led Lincoln with 13 points.

Effingham made 13 of just 28 shots for 46% including 6 of 13 threes. The Hearts struggled at the line, making just 2 of 7 attempts, and turned the ball over 18 times to seven for Lincoln. One thing Effingham did well was rebound, outboarding Lincoln 25 to 16. Lincoln made just 12 of 33 shots for 36% including 3 of 12 threes and hit 18 of 26 free throws.

Lincoln improved to 20-5 on the season.

Lincoln won the JV game 66-35. Nate Thompson led the JV Hearts with 12 points and Parker Wolfe scored six.
