Effingham St. Anthony's eighth-grade team will be heading to state tournament play Saturday. Effingham St. Anthony and Sigel St. Michael advanced to eighth-grade state boys basketball tournaments with sectional victories Thursday evening.

Class 8-2A North Clay (Louisville) Sectional

Effingham St. Anthony edged out to a 10-8 opening quarter lead on North Clay (Louisville) at the North Clay Sectional.

The Bullpups held a 20-13 halftime lead. North Clay had pulled back within 24-18 going into the final quarter but St. Anthony steadied with a 10-7 final quarter and won 34-25.

There was even scoring for St. Anthony as Stewart and Mendella finished with eight points each while Chojnicki, Blanchette and Niebrugge had six each.

North Clay was led by Ingram with 10 points.

St. Anthony advances to the 2A State Tournament with a 15-9 record and will face Colchester West Prairie Saturday at 11:30 a.m. The State Tourney will be held at Mount Pulaski High School.

Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Sectional

Sigel St. Michael downed Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes in the championship game of the St. Michael Sectional Wednesday.

The Sharpshooters won 64-39 and improved to 22-2 on the season.

St. Michael will head to the Class 1A State Tournament at Bartonville Limestone High School Saturday and face Annawan (12-9) at 11:30 a.m.

 

Class 8-3A Teutopolis Sectional

Teutopolis saw its season end after suffering a 51-45 loss to Macon Meridian in the T-town Sectional Wednesday.

T-town ends the season with a 15-10 record. Macon Meridian advances to the State Tournament with a 22-2 mark.
