Effingham defeated Charleston in high school basketball for the second straight night Tuesday night.

This time, it was the boys' turn as the Hearts downed the Trojans 63-45 in action at EHS Gym. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com

Effingham scored the first seven points of the contest, but Charleston hit three threes to take a 9-7 lead. The Hearts regrouped, though, and had regained the lead 14-11 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was a key, as Effingham outscored Charleston 17-8 to hold a 31-19 halftime lead. A 19-13 third quarter saw the lead extended to 50-32. A 13-13 fourth quarter left the Hearts with an 18-point win.

The Hearts shot the ball well, but the key was a lopsided edge on the boards. Effingham outrebounded Charleston 44 to 19.

Effingham hit 23 of 49 shots for 47% including 6 of 18 threes. The Hearts made 11 of 14 foul shots and turned the ball over 13 times.

Charleston hit just 18 of 56 shots for 32% including 8 of 20 threes meaning they shot better on threes than on two-point attempts. The Trojans were just one of five at the line, but were called for just three turnovers in the contest.

Landon Wolfe had a monster night on an evening when he was recognized for passing the 1,000-point mark for his career. He had gone past the milestone mark in January. Wolfe had 26 points and backed it up with 17 rebounds for a colossal double-double. Mason Hull was also in double figures with 13 points. Also for the Hearts: Matthew Robinson had seven points with eight rebounds, Cole Marxman scored eight points with four rebounds, Ryan Sandifer scored three points, Lucas Vasquez and Tate Niebrugge each hit a three-pointer, and Parker Wolfe didn't score, but had three rebounds and four assists. Logan Smith also didn't score, but grabbed four rebounds.

Darrell Phillips led Charleston with 15 points.

Effingham improved to 10-12 on the season, 4-5 in Apollo Conference play. Charleston slipped to 7-14, 1-9 in the Apollo.

Charleston won the JV game 64-57. Nate Thompson with 18 points and Parker Wolfe with 15 points led Effingham.
