An atmosphere envisioned when the Enlow Center was built prevailed Friday night as the St. Anthony Bulldogs edged the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes 53-50 in a dandy boys high school basketball game. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

The gym was filled to near capacity for one of the few times in its history as everyone envisioned a classic battle and that's what they got.

St. Anthony roared out of the gate to take an 11-point lead, particularly due to their transition game operating in high gear. Teutopolis made some changes defensively and by the end of the first quarter had pulled back to within 17-13.

The comeback continued in the second quarter as the Shoes outscored the Bulldogs 13-10 to make it a one-point game, 27-26 St. Anthony.

Teutopolis pulled ahead for the first of several times early in the second half and, from then on, it was "Game On". The Wooden Shoes pulled ahead by as many as four, and St. Anthony regained as large as a six-point lead, but neither team could finish off the other. The Bulldogs eventually outscored T-Town 10-9 in the third quarter and 16-15 in the fourth quarter to win the game by three.

St. Anthony shot 38% from the field, making 17 of 45 including 5 of 19 threes. The Bulldogs hit 14 of 18 foul shots, grabbed 26 rebounds, and committed just nine turnovers.

Teutopolis shot 39% from the field, making 16 of 41 attempts including 6 of 22 threes. The Shoes made 12 of 16 at the line, pulled down 24 rebounds and also turned the ball over just nine times.

Adam Levitt led the way for the Bulldogs with 14 points despite a 4-for-16 shooting night. Alex Deters was also in double figures with 10 points. Also for the Bulldogs: Cade Walsh and Alex Beesley with eight points each, Brandon Runge seven, Jack Nuxoll four, and Luke Ludwig two.

Eric Kremer led Teutopolis and all scorers with 17 points, 12 in the first quarter when he was the only person who could get the lid off for the Shoes. Dawson Smith scored 11 points, Clint Weber eight, Lee Hardiek six, Ian Addis four, Collin Funneman three, and Clint Weber.

St. Anthony improves to 22-2 on the season, while Teutopolis slips to 16-7.

St. Anthony also got off to a good start in the JV game and kept it going. The JV Bulldogs posted a 61-24 over the JV Shoes. Jaccob Dust with 13 and Lukd Ludwig with 12 led St. Anthony. The St. Anthony JV squad is still undefeated for the season.
