Dieterich to Play St. Anthony for NTC Tourney Championship

It'll be #1 vs #2 in the championship game of the 83rd Annual National Trail Conference Boys Basketball Tournament.

Dieterich, the #2 seed, punched their ticket Friday night with a 67-48 win over the Windsor/Stew-Stras Hatchets. 

In the earlier game Friday, St. Elmo/Brownstown downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 66-40.

Both games were heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com, including live video and audio streaming of both contests.

Dieterich will play top-seeded St. Anthony at 7:30pm for the tournament championship. Earlier Saturday, CHBC will play North Clay in the 7th place game at 11:30am, Brownstown/St. Elmo will play Altamont in the consolation championship game at 1pm, and Neoga will take on Windsor/Stew-Stras in the third place game at 2:30pm.

This will mark the first time in NTC Tourney history that two teams have played each other twice in the same tournament. North Clay beat CHBC back on Monday night in the opening game of the event.

DIETERICH 67, WINDSOR/STEW-STRAS 48

Dieterich avenged a regular season loss to the Hatchets with Friday night's win. The Movin Maroons came out with all guns ablazing, taking an 11-0 lead over the Hatchets and they could never recover. It was 13-4 Dieterich after one quarter, 29-18 at halftime, 51-36 after three quarters, and the Maroons outscored the Hatchets 16-12 in the final quarter for the 19-point victory to improve to 15-5 on the season. Windsor/Stew-Stras is now 9-9 for all games.

Dieterich made 50% of its shots, 25 of 50, including 3 of 9 on threes. The Maroons made 14 of 16 foul shots. Windsor/Stew-Stras made 15 of 35 shots for 43% and hit 15 of 18 free throws.

Callaway Campton led Dieterich with 25 points on 10 of 15 shooting and also claimed 7 rebounds. Ryan Radloff scored 18 points, and Tyler Higgs scored 10 points with six rebounds. Bryce McClain scored 8 points and Devin Flach 6 points.

Isaac Kramer stepped up to score 21 points for Windsor/Stew-Stras on 7 of 10 shooting. Gavin Bennett was also in double figures with 12 points. Also for the Hatchets: Christian Kessler 7, Chase Thies 5, Adam Burton 2, and Jackson Miller 1.

Dieterich improved to 15-5 with the win, while Windsor/Stew-Stras is back to .500 at 9-9.

Here's ticket information for Dieterich fans: Sales will be Saturday morning at Dieterich High School as follows: 7:30-7.45---boys basketball players, cheerleaders, coaches of participating team, Board of Education members, athletic director, and administrators...7:45 to 8:15am--staff, and high school and junior high school students...8:15 to 8:45am--reserved seat and season ticket holders, and family season pass holders...and 8:45 to 9:30am--general public. 

There is no limit to the number of tickets that can be purchased by each individual. All seat holders must have a ticket (only babies in arms not taking up a seat will not require a ticket.

Dieterich will sell their allotment of tickets today only. If you don't buy tickets this morning at Dieterich, they may be bought at the door at Altamont Saturday evening.

ST. ELMO/BROWNSTOWN 66, CHBC 40

This game started as if it would be a good close contest. SEB led 10-6 after one quarter.

Then came the second quarter.

SEB outscored CHBC 32-6 in the period and led 42-12 at halftime. Louis Brown scored 18 of the Eagles points that quarter. 

As quickly as the onslaught began, though, it ended, as SEB scored just 4 points in the third quarter and CHBC outscored them 11-4 in the period. SEB bounced back again and outscored the Bobcats 20-17 in the fourth period to win the game by 26 points.

St. Elmo/Brownstown made 22 of 48 shots including 6 of 19 threes. They made 16 of 23 foul shots and grabbed 28 rebounds. CHBC made 15 of 48 shots, hit six of eight foul shots, and pulled down 20 rebounds.

Isaac Maxey led SEB with 23 points, while Lewis Brown scored 21. Also for SEB: Andy Golsborough 7, Nate Philpot 6, Rocky Himes 6, Tyler Brooks 2, and Clayton Aderman 1.

Dylan Webster led CHBC with 18 points, while Nick Miller scored 7, Keegan Martin 4, Trace Smith 4, Dylan Taylor 4, and Eddie Clearwater 3.

St. Elmo/Brownstown is now 13-6, while CHBC is 4-15.

That sets the stage for today's games. At 11:30am, CHBC will play North Clay for 7th place, Altamont will take on St. Elmo/Brownstown in the consolation championship at 1pm, at 2:30pm, Neoga will play Windsor/Stew-Stras for third place, and the championship game at 7:30pm will feature St. Anthony vs. Dieterich.
