NEOGA -- Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School's seventh-graders moved into the championship of the Class 2-A Neoga Boys Basketball Regional Tuesday evening.

The Bullpups pounded Neoga, 53-18.

Also moving into the title contest was Paris Crestwood, a 45-26 winner over Hutsonville in the second game.

St. Anthony will meet Paris Crestwood at 6 p.m. Thursday for the championship.

 

Class 2A South Central Regional

Altamont claimed a victory over North Clay (Louisville), 35-30 at the South Central Regional Tuesday.

In the second contest, South Central won over St. Elmo/Brownstown, 67-42.

Altamont meets South Central at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.

 

Class 7-1A Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes Regional

Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes claimed the championship of its own regional by beating Pana Sacred Heart, 48-40.

Our Lady of Lourdes now advances to the Pana Sacred Heart Sectional where it will take on either Stewardson-Strasburg or Dieterich. Those two teams play Thursday night for the championship of the Stew-Stras Regional.

 

Class 7-4A Taylorville Regional

Mount Zion won the championship of the Taylorville Regional.

Mount Zion edged Decatur Jefferson, 44-41. Mount Zion advances to the Mattoon Sectional Wednesday, January 31.

 

At Effingham

Effingham split A and B eighth-grade victories with Carlyle Tuesday evening.

The Mustangs won the A game, 47-34. B Pals scored 15 points to lead the winners. Matteson had eight rebounds and five steals. Hardiek had five rebounds while Pals had four.

In the B contest, Carlyle was a 39-24 winner. Effingham was led by Guthrie with 14 points.
