St. Anthony, Neoga Winners at NTC Tourney

St. Anthony and Neoga were winners in Tuesday night action at the 83rd Annual National Trail Conference Boys Basketball Tournament. The Bulldogs beat the North Clay Cardinals 78-45 and Neoga downed Altamont 53-38. The games at Altamont were live streamed with both audio and video at www.979xfm.com and heard on 979XFM.

ST. ANTHONY 78, NORTH CLAY 45

St. Anthony played like the top seed in the tournament, shooting 50% from the field, outrebounding North Clay 32-14, and committing just 10 turnovers. The Bulldogs were 30 of 60 from the field including 5 of 16 threes and made 11 of 15 foul shots.

North Clay made 18 of 38 shots, 47%, including 4 of 9 threes.  The Cardinals made 6 of 12 foul shots and committed 24 turnovers.

The game was very competitive through the first quarter with St. Anthony leading 18-13 at the end of the period. The Bulldogs gradually pulled away, though, leading 36-22 at halftime and 60-35 after three quarters before outscoring the Cardinals 18-10 in the final period.

Adam Levitt led a balanced Bulldog attack with 16 points, while Cade Walsh scored 12 points and Alex Deters 11. Also for the Bulldogs: Alex Beesley 9, Jack Nuxoll 8, Brandon Runge 6, Luke Ludwig 4, Jaccob Dust 4, Wyatt Lawrence 2, Quinton Milleville 2, Kaden Fearday 2, and Bryson Wall 2. Levitt also led in rebounds with seven.

Reese Blank led North Clay with 12 points, while Quincy Aldrich and Kaden Turner each scored 11 points. Also for the Cardinals: Bryce Holkenbrink 6, Tyson Jones 3, and Kyle McKnelly 2.

St. Anthony improved to 18-2, while North Clay is now 7-13.

NEOGA 53, ALTAMONT 38

This looked like anybody's game through the first quarter, with Altamont leading at quarter's end 9-7. Neoga, though, started to establish themselves outscoring Altamont 19-10 in the second quarter to lead 26-19 at halftime, moving ahead 38-28 after three quarters and outscoring Altamont 15-10 in the final quarter to win by 15.

Neoga made 47% of its shots, 20 of 43, including 2 of 8 threes. Altamont made just 15 of 54 shots, 28%, including 4 of 27 threes. Neoga made 11 of 15 foul shots, Altamont 4 of 5. Neoga won despite 21 turnovers to 13 for Altamont, but Neoga outrebounded Altamont 39-16.

Only five players scored for Neoga, but they featured balanced scoring. Drew Ramert and Jackson Clark each scored 12 points, Reese Johnson 11, Caleb Hill 10, and Clayton Butler 8. As mentioned, rebounding was huge, with 11 for Butler, 7 each for Johnson, Hill and Clark, and 6 for Ramert.

Neoga improved to 9-8 on the season, while Altamont slipped to 10-9.

St. Anthony will play Neoga in the third game Thursday night, while North Clay will play Altamont in the second of three games on Thursday.

Two games Wednesday night, as #2 Dieterich takes on #7 South Central at 6:15pm, followed by #3 St. Elmo/Brownstown vs. #6 Windsor/Stew-Stras. Live stream audio and video again Wednesday night.
