Altamont Claims NTC Girls Tourney Crown

BEECHER CITY -- Altamont High School captured the championship of the National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.
The Indians jumped out to a 12-2 opening quarter lead on Effingham St. Anthony. and led 22-16 at halftime. The Indians then had a 23-11 second half.
Tinley Mette and Leah Mayhaus led the way for Altamont with 10 points each.
St. Anthony was led by Clare McHugh with 11.
Third place went to Brownstown/St. Elmo who edged Neoga, 63-62.
BSE held a 34-29 halftime lead. Neoga came back with a 19-13 third quarter to lead 48-47 going into the final quarter.
BSE tallied two more points to take the victory.
Claire Wilhour scored 14 for the winners while Deana Shelton chipped in with 12. Dana Shelton and Natalie Oberlink scored nine each.
Neoga was led by four players in double figures, Kelsey Partlow 16, Blair Banning 15, Mary Hill 11 and Olivia Titus 10.
North Clay (Louisville) tallied a 50-34 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City to nab the consolation championship.
The Cardinals stepped out to a 30-17 halftime lead and never looked back.
Madi Craig led the winners with 14 points. Cassidy Coble scored nine.
CHBC was led by Lauren Wojcik with 10 and Jaelyn Robertson with nine.
The seventh-place contest went to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg over Dieterich, 46-35.
Megan Schlechte and Nikki Trussel were the one-two scoring punch for the Hatchets with 16 points each.
Dieterich was led by Cassie Vahling with 10 and Anna Shadle with nine.
Named to the All-Tournament Team were Claire Wilhour (BSE) who was also named the Most Valuable Player, Megan Schlechte (Windsor/Stew-Stras), Claire McHugh (St. Anthony), Leah Mayhaus (Altamont), Blair Baning (Neoga), Madi Craig (North Clay), Jaelyn Robertson (Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City), Madison Lovett (North Clay), Anna Shadle (Dieterich), Meg Richards (St. Anthony), Tinley Mette (Altamont) and Kelsey Partlow (Neoga).
