Junior High NTC Tourney Results -- Jan. 16

ST. ELMO -- Stewardson-Strasburg and Dieterich claimed wins in the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Tuesday.

Stew-Stras opened the evening with a 38-25 win over Neoga. The two squads were tied at 9-9 after the first quarter. Stew-Stras then had a 12-1 second period run and never looked back.

Wernsing led the winners with 11 points while  A. Wittenberg added nine. Stew-Stras improves to 9-12.

Neoga was led by McClure with 10 points.

In the second game, Dieterich edged North Clay (Louisville), 35-34. No other statistics turned in.

The tournament will come to a close Thursday as Sigel St. Michael takes on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 5:30 p.m. for the consolation championship. Neoga meets North Clay for third place at 6:45 and Stew-Stras faces Dieterich at 8 for the championship.
