BEECHER CITY --The National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament opened play Monday evening at Beecher City High School.
In the first game, Dieterich High School handed South Central a 45-15 loss.
Dieterich stepped out to 17-1 opening quarter lead and never looked back.
The Movin' Maroons were led in scoring by Anna Shadle with 12 points and Gracie Britton with 10.
South Central was led by Sydnee Garrett with six. The Cougars drop into consolation play and will face either Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City or Neoga Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
In the second contest, Brownstown/St. Elmo edged North Clay (Louisville), 50-49 to pull off a big upset. BSE is seeded seventh while North Clay is seeded second.
The Cardinals held an 11-9 first quarter lead and led by that same two point margin at halftime, 26-24. The Cardinals led 40-36 going into the final quarter.
That's went BSE rallied with a 14-9 run to pull out the one point victory. Claire Wilhour led the winners with 20 points while Dana Shelton chipped in with nine.
North Clay was led by Madi Craig with 16 and Cassidy Coble with 10.
St. Anthony then tallied a 56-42 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.
The Bulldogs held a 29-20 halftime lead then had a 27-22 second half.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Megan Schlechte with 18 and Nikki Trussell with 13.
"Good offensive game for us, especially having three in double figures and one with nine," said St. Anthony Coach Bart Wiedman. "We held a team to 42 points that have two good post players. If we rebound a little better, we might have only given up 32. It's time to refocus our attention to Brownstown/St. Elmo, who had a big upset today."
The final contest went to Neoga over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 52-38.
The Indians swept out to an 18-9 opening quarter lead and led 31-15 at halftime.
Blair Banning knocked in six two-pointers and was seven of eight at the line for 19 points for Neoga. Jessica Atwell chipped in with 10.
