Shoes Open Highland Tourney Play With Victory, LIC Tourney

HIGHLAND -- Teutopolis High School opened play at the 32nd Annual Scott Credit Union Highland Girls Basketball Tournament with a victory Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes downed Belleville West 59-47. T-town took charge early with a 15-6 opening quarter lead but Belleville West came back with a 16-11 second quarter run to pull within 26-22 at halftime.

T-town righted the ship and had a 16-8 third quarter then played West even in the final period.

Joelen Bueker tallied 23 points to lead the Shoes while Sadie Bueker chipped in with 14 and Macy Michels added 10. Olivia Niemerg led in steals with three. J. Bueker, S. Bueker and Mette had three assists each. Michels added two blocked shots.

In other games, Bethalto Civic Memorial beat Trenton Wesclin 62-16, Nashville beat Salem 42-39, Breese Central beat Triad 47-15, Okawville beat Carlyle 48-36, O'Fallon beat Hillsboro 61-25, Breese Mater Dei beat Taylorville 57-54 and Highland beat Belleville Althoff 66-46.

T-town will be back in action Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. against Highland.

Little Illini Conference Tournament

Four games were contested Saturday at the Little Illini Conference Girls Basketball Tournament at Casey.

Olney downed Robinson 55-25 in the first contest. Flora beat host Casey-Westfield 45-38. Paris pounded Lawrenceville 66-27. Marshall downed Newton 46-39.

Tonight's contest will feature Newton against Red Hill in consolation bracket play at 7 p.m.
