Stew-Stras, Newton Claim Boys Victories

OKAW VALLEY -- Justin Fulk and Brandon Helmuth combined for 43 points to lead Stewardson-Strasburg to a 76-53 win over Okaw Valley in boys basketball action Tuesday evening.
Fulk got the Comets off in the right direction with six points in the opening quarter. The score was knotted at 16-16. Stew-Stras then got on a roll, scoring 23 second period points to lead 39-29 at halftime.
Fulk then came out in the third quarter scoring 10 points and finished out with two baskets in the final quarter for 22 points. Helmuth tallied 11 of his 21 points in the final quarter. Also in double figures was Jonathan Luce with 13. Luce pulled down 14 rebounds.
The Comets hit 57 percent from the field while holding Okaw Valley to 27 percent. Stew-Stras improved to 5-4 on the season and will be at Windsor Friday for the Blue Hatchet game as the Blue Devils celebrate homecoming.

Newton jumped out to a 14-4 opening quarter lead and went on to down Paris 57-38.
The Eagles had a 27-8 third quarter run. The Eagles hit 20 of 37 from the field and eight of 12 at the line. Paris was 11 of 30 from the field and 10 of 16 at the line.
Dylan Davidson led the winners with 19 points while Derek Schackman chipped in with nine.

At Toledo
Charleston came calling at Cumberland and handed the Pirates a 78-36 non-conference loss.
The Trojans took a 23-4 opening quarter lead and it was over. Five Trojans finished in double figures led by Ethan Miller with 20. Jordan Hellman and Truston Winnett chipped in with 12 each, Zach Steidl with 11 and Gowin with 10. Charleston improves to 5-2.
Cumberland was led by Caleb Brumleve with 13 points. The Pirates drop to 2-9 on the season.

Casey-Westfield bounced Neoga 90-55 as four players hit the double digit mark Tuesday evening.
Brandon Wolfe tallied 29 to leave the Warriors while Trivette Scales had 20, Matt McGown 14 and Zach Murphy 12. McCown led in rebounds with nine. The Warriors improve to 4-0 on the season.
Neoga drops to 1-8 with the loss and will host Arcola Friday.
