St. Anthony, Altamont, WSS Nab Girls Wins

Effingham St. Anthony High School claimed a National Trail Conference win over Neoga Thursday evening, 66-41.
The Bulldogs ripped off to a 20-11 opening quarter lead and led 39-12 at halftime. Meg Richards and Shea Kinkelaar nailed seven points each in the opening quarter. Richards and Clare McHugh tallied six apiece in the second quarter run.
"That first half was the best half of basketball we have played all year," said St. Anthony Coach Bart Wiedman. "We also competed on both ends of the floor.
"We needed a game like this after a struggle in the first half of the season. Now we need to do the same in the NTC Tournament next week."
Richards finished with 22 points for the Bulldogs while McHugh added 14 and Kinkelaar 10. Olivia Clausius pulled down nine rebounds while Richards had eight boards and two steals. Keri McGuire had five assists.
Neoga was led by Olivia Titus with 11 points. The Indians drop to 3-2 in the NTC, 9-12 overall.
Neoga won the junior varsity game 30-22.

At Brownstown
Altamont High School pushed its National Trail Conference mark to a perfect 7-0 and the overall record to 18-4 with a 55-44 win over Brownstown/St. Elmo Thursday.
Three players hit double figures for the Indians. Leah Mayhaus tallied 21 while Brooke Runge scored 13 and Tinley Mette 12 in the win.
Altamont held a 29-19 halftime lead then had a 26-25 second half.
BSE was led by Claire Wilhour with 15 and Olivia Campbell with 10.
Altamont also claimed the junior varsity game 34-9.

Megan Schlechte nailed 25 points for the winners.
South Central was led by Kayli Swift with seven points.

LIC Tournament
The Little Illini Conference Tournament opened play at Casey.
Robinson handed Red Hill (Bridgeport) a 49-33 loss.
The tournament continues Saturday. Robinson will take on top-seeded Olney at 3 p.m. followed by Casey-Westfield against Flora at 4:30, Paris taking on Lawrenceville at 6 and Marshall facing Newton at 7:30.
