NTC Eighth-Grade, James Burke Tourneys Scheduled

The National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys BasketballTournament has been scheduled to start Friday at St. Elmo.
In the opener, No. 8 Stewardson-Strasburg takes on No. 9 St. Elmo/Brownstown at 5:30 p.m. No. 7 Windsor faces No. 10 Effingham Sacred Heart at 6:45. In the 8 p.m. contest, No. 6 Dieterich faces No. 11 Altamont.
Sigel St. Michael drew the top seed and will play this Saturday at 10 a.m. No. 4 Neoga and No. 5 South Central meet each other at 11:15 a.m. North Clay (Louisville) is No. 2 and will play Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against the winner of the windsor vs. Sacred Heart contest. No. 3 Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City will take on the winner of the Dieterich/Altamont contest at 1:45 p.m.
The tournament continues Monday, Tuesday and finishes out Wednesday, January 17.

James Burke Eighth-Grade Tournament
Effingham and Effingham St. Anthony will compete in the 70th edition of the James Burke Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Monday at Greenville.
The tournament is named for James Burke, a long-time teacher, principal and coach at Greenville Junior HIgh School who started the tourney in 1949. He coached the Bluejays the first 20 years of the tournament.
St. Anthony will open play Monday at 3:30 p.m. against Hillsboro. Effingham will square off against host Greenville at 5:30 p.m.
Other members of the field include Aviston, Roxana, Salem and Triad.
The tournament continues Tuesday, Thursday and finishes out Friday.
