Junior High Boys Basketball Results -- Jan. 9

MATTOON -- Mattoon claimed both seventh and eighth grade B victories over Effingham Tuesday evening.

Mattoon edged the Hearts 33-32 in seventh-grade play. The Hearts held a 20-14 halftime lead. Mattoon came back with a 9-4 third quarter to pull within 24-23 going into the final period. The Green Wave then had a 10-8 run for the win.

Effingham was led by Maxedon with five points.

In eighth-grade action, Mattoon won 37-12. The Green Wave had a 21-4 second and third quarter run.

Effingham was led by Nelson with five points.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Sigel St. Michael split victories Tuesday evening.

CHBC edged the Sharpshooters 38-36 in seventh-grade play. St. Michael had a 10-9 first quarter lead but the score was tied at 19-19 at halftime. St. Michael led 28-26 going into the final quarter when CHBC came back with a 12-7 run to pull out the win.

CHBC was led by Kenny Robbins with 13 points. St. Michael was led by Niebrugge with 17.

In eighth-grade action, St. Michael was a 51-42 winner. CHBC held a 24-20 halftime lead but the Sharpshooters came back with a 17-8 third quarter and claimed the win.

Croy scored 23 and Young 19 for the winners. CHBC was led by Jaden Robertson with 11.

Altamont Lutheran claimed two wins over Odin.

Lutheran was a 53-17 winner in seventh-grade play to improve to 12-3.

In the eighth-garde contest, Altamont Luthern won 40-37 and is 16-2.
