Effingham, St. Anthony Wins Twice; Junior High Boys Roundup

Effingham Junior High School picked up two victories over Jasper County in boys basketball competition Monday evening.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest 37-27.  Adam Levitt continued his solid play with 12 points and five rebounds. He got help from Mason Hull with seven points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Effingham improves to 7-4 on the season.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham was a 57-22 winner over Jasper County. Wolfe tallied 21 and Donaldson 15 for the Mustangs. Kreke had four steals. Donaldson had five reboundsa dn wolfe and Osborn had three each.

EFfingham improves to 11-1 on the season. The Mustangs will be back in action Thursday at Olney.

At Strasburg

Effingham St. Anthony claimed a 38-25 win over Stewardson-Strasburg in seventh-grade action Monday evening.

The Bullpups held a 20-14 halftime lead then blanked Stew-Stras 10-0 in the third period. Deters tallied 12 for the winners while Kessler scored 12 for Stew-Stras.

In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony stepped out to a 23-7 halftime lead and never looked back in a 42-14 victory.

Greene led the Bullpups with 11 points. Nichols and Overbeck had five each for Stew-Stras.

At Beecher City

Vandalia came calling at Beecher City and handed the host squad two losses Monday evening.

In seventh-grade play, Vandalia claimed a 34-10 win. Zimmermann tallied eight for the winners while a total of nine players scored in the game. Beecher City was led by Jeff Stoldt with four points.

In eighth-grade action, Vandalia was a 42-11 winner. Jones led the winners with nine points while Gordon and Schroeder scored eight each. Beecher City was led by Cody Grove with nine points.

North Clay (Louisville) pushed its record to 8-3 on the season with a victory Monday evening.

North Clay defeated Noble 57-29. Quincy Aldrich led the winners with 21 points.
