North Clay Captures Dieterich Girls Tourney Title

DIETERICH -- North Clay (Louisville) High School won the championship of the Dieterich Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament with a 57-31 victory over Casey-Westfield Thursday.

The Cardinals edged out to a 9-8 opening quarter lead and led 28-18 at halftime. North Clay had a 21-4 third period to put the game away.

Madison Lovett tallied 22 points to lead the Cardinals while Cassidy Coble added 11.

In the third place contest, Newton downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 50-39. Newton led 27-12 at halftime.

The Eagles were led by Abby Frohning with 20 points and Allison Harris with 14.

CHBC was led by Lauren Wojcik with 15.

The fifth place game went to Brownstown/St. Elmo over Dieterich 60-33. BSE took a 21-10 opening quarter lead and that was all it took.

Olivia Campbell tallied 23 while Claire Wilhour added 20 for the winners.

Dieterich was led by Anna Shadle with 13.

The seventh place contest went to Arcola over South Central 42-15. The Cougars were led by Katlyn Hilmes with eight.

Named to the all-Tournament Team were Abby Frohning (Newton) who was the Most Valuable Player, Myriah Warner (Casey-Westfield), Mackenzie Morgan (Casey-Westfield), Maddie Craig (North Clay), Claire Wilhour (Brownstown/St. Elmo), Madison Lovett (North Clay), Jaelyn Robertson (CHBC), Anna Shadle (Dieterich), Kaylee Hohlbauch (Arcola), Olivia Campbell (BSE) and Cassidy Coble (North Clay).
