Dieterich Boys Tournament Finals Set

DIETERICH -- The finals are set for the Dieterich Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament after six games were contested Wednesday.

Newton will take on Dieterich at 8 p.m. today for the championship while Okaw Valley and Arcola square off for third place at 4. Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran meets North Clay (Louisville) at 2:30 for fifth place. The seventh-place game features Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City against Oblong at 1.

CORL edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in the opening game Wednesday, 58-53. CHBC stepped out to 20-16 opening quarter lead and led 32-31 at halftime. CORL came back with a 12-6 third period to lead 43-38 and the two teams scored 15 points each in the final quarter.

CHBC was led by Dylan Webster with 15 and Nick Miller with 10.

In the second contest Wednesday, Oblong beat North Clay 73-65. Oblong ran off to a 26-14 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

North Clay had three players hit double figures. Aleon Rinehart led the way with 20 points while Lane Holkenbrink and Tyson Jones with 15 points each.

Newton then handed CORL a 68-31 loss. The Eagles' Nicholas Cohorst, a 6-foot-5 senior, scored 12 points in the opening quarter 25-14 run. The Eagles continued their barrage as Jack Chapman nailed three trifectas for nine points and they led 41-19 at halftime.

Chapman and Cohorst finished with 17 points each while Collin Harris added 12.

North Clay then downed Arcola 48-39. The Cardinals took a 12-5 opening quarter lead and led 28-19 at halftime and 39-30 going into the final period.

Rinehart led the way with 15 points while Quincy Aldrich chipped in with 14 and Jones added 10.

Newton picked up its second win by beating Okaw Valley 61-38.

The Eagles ripped off to a 14-4 opening quarter lead. Cohorst had eight points in the opening half then went on a tear with a 13 point third quarter. He finished with 23 points.

Also in double figures was Zach Jansen with 20 points.

The final game of the day went to Dieterich over Arcola 75-32.

The Maroons ripped off to a 44-16 halftime lead. Radloff connected for 10 points in the opening quarter and had a 12 point third period. The 6-foot senior finished with 29 points hitting 12 field goals that included five three-pointers. Also in double figures was Calloway Campton with 16.

Newton and Dieterich both finished pool play with 3-0 records while Okaw Valley had a 2-1 mark, Arcola, North Clay, Oblong and Christ Our Rock Luthern 1-2 and CHBC 0-3.
