North Clay Will Face C-W For Dieterich Girls Crown

DIETERICH -- North Clay (Louisville) High School handed South Central a 49-18 loss in action at the Dieterich Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament Wednesday.

The Cardinals ran off to a 23-4 opening quarter lead and the game was put away in the win column.

The Cardinals were led by Audrey Fleener and Cassidy Coble with 10 points each. Maddie Craig chipped in with eight.

South Central was led by Katlyn Hilmes with 12. The Cougars drop to 2-12 on the season.

North Clay then downed Brownstown/St. Elmo 61-52 to finish 3-0 in pool play.

The Cardinals took a 25-20 halftime lead. Brownstown/St. Elmo pulled within 39-35 going into the final quarter but North Clay had a 22-17 final period.

Madison Lovett led the way with 25 points while Craig chipped in with 21.

BSE was led by Dana Shelton with 20 points, Claire Wilhour with 16 and Olivia Campbell with 14.

Casey-Westfield handed Newton a 51-37 loss. The Warriors held a 23-16 halftime lead.

Mackenzie Morgan scored 20 for the winners while JaeLynn Riggleman added 15 and Myriah Warner had 10.

Newton was led by Allison Harris with 13 points.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City then claimed a 57-30 win over BSE.

CHBC led 19-8 after the opening quarter and 34-20 at halftime.

Jaelyn Robertson led the way for the Bobcats with 21 points while Lauren Wojcik added 13 and Tabitha Endsley nine.

BSE was led by C. Wilhour with 10 points.

Newton then finished out the day with a 45-29 win over host Dieterich.

The Eagles held a 17-9 halftime lead. Dieterich came back in the third quarter with a 16-9 run to pull within 26-25 going into the final period. But the Eagles regained control with a 19-4 run.

Abby Frohning led the Eagles with 27 points while Allison Harris chipped in with 10.

Dieterich was led by Gracie Britton with 11 points and Andrea Bierman with eight.

Today's finals will have South Central against Arcola at 1 p.m. for seventh place, BSE facing Dieterich at 2:30 for fifth place. CHBC will take on Newton at 4 for third place. North Clay faces Casey-Westfield at 6 for the championship.
