St. Anthony Is 3-0 at Vandalia Boys Tourney

VANDALIA -- Effingham St. Anthony High School improved to 3-0 in pool play at the 46th Vandalia Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Wednesday.

The Bulldogs stomped Patoka 72-22. The Bulldogs stepped out to a 22-3 opening quarter lead and led 40-16 at halftime and 66-19 after three quarters.

Three players finished in double figures for the Bulldogs. Alex Beesley led the way with 16 points while Cade Walsh had 15 and Adam Levitt added 10.

South Central High School fell to Shelbyville 71-61 in the opening game of the day.

The Rams took a 22-15 opening quarter lead as Miller connected on four baskets, Reed two three-pointers and Pullen a basket and four of four at the free throw line.

South Central came back with an 18-14 second period to pull within 36-33 at halftime. But the Rams took control again in the third quarter.

Miller finshed with 34 to lead the winners while Pullen added 15 and Reed 11.

The Cougars were led by Logan Lotz with 22 and Trent Geiler with 20. South Central is 0-2 in pool play.

In other games, Pana downed Patoka 63-21, Vandalia won over Ramsey 85-56, Shelbyville beat Vandalia Junior Varsity 74-33, Vandalia downed Pana 68-48 and Flora defeated Father McGivney, 48-38.

St. Anthony, Flora, Shelbyville and Vandalia all are 3-0 in pool play. Pana and Father McGiveny are 2-1 and Patoka and Vandalia 0-3.

The Bulldogs face Vandalia at 6:30 p.m. today while South Central takes on Vandalia Junior Varsity at 5.
