Maroons Capture Two at Own Tourney, Newton Wins

DIETERICH -- Dieterich High School captured two victories at its own holiday boys basketball tournament while Newton claimed a win Tuesday.

Dieterich pounded Oblong 74-34 The Maroons held a 26-5 opening quarter lead and put the game away early.

Ryan Radloff led three players in double figures with 17 while Tyler Higgs added 14 and Devin Flach 11.

Newton then claimed a 66-40 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

Newton flashed out to a 22-12 opening quarter behind Nick Cohorst's 11 points and Jack Chapman's eight.

The Eagles led 41-21 at halftime and 50-31 going into the final period. Cohorst finished with 24 points and Chapman with 17.

CHBC was led by Dylan Webster with 12 and Nick Miller with 11.

CHBC then fell to Okaw Valley 52-42. Okaw Valley held a 14-11 opening quarter lead and led 27-19 at halftime.

The Bobcats trailed 37-28 going into the final period and couldn't get any closer.

Dylan Webster and Keegan Martin scored 13 points each for the Bobcats. CHBC kept close by hitting its free throws, knocking in 18 of 22.

In the final game of the day, Dieterich downed North Clay (Louisville) 75-58.

CHBC led 41-22 at halftime and had the game on ice.

Radloff and Calloway Campton were the two big guns for the Maroons with 24 and 23 points respectively. Also in double figures was Tyler Higgs with 12.

North  Clay was led by Tyson Jones with 13.

In other scores: Okaw Valley beat Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran 50-31 and Arcola downed Oblong 51-47.

Today's games feature Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 11:30 a.m. followed by North Clay taking on Oblong at 1 p.m., Newton against CORL at 2:30, Arcola facing North Clay at 4, Okaw Valley meeting Newton at 5:30 and Dieterich finishing out the evening against Arcola at 7.
