Bulldogs Claim Two at Vandalia Tourney

VANDALIA -- Effingham St. Anthony High School put together two victories in opening round play at the Vandalia Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Tuesday.

The Bulldogs opened with a 98-37 pounding of Ramsey. St. Anthony ran off a 29-5 opening quarter as Adam Levitt scored nine and Jack Nuxoll eight points. The Bulldogs held a 55-20 halftime and an 81-33 third quarter lead.

Five players finished in double figures. Alex Deters led the way with 23 points as he hit four three-pointers. Cade Walsh scored 16, Levitt 14, Alex Brandenburger 13 and Luke Ludwig 10.

In the second game for the Bulldogs, claimed a 68-47 win over Pana.

St. Anthony edged out to a 14-11 opening quarter lead as Levitt knocked in eight points. Levitt continued with seven more points in the second period and the Bulldogs led 29-21 at halftime.

Both teams scored 18 points in the third period before St. Anthony had a 21-8 final quarter run.

Levitt finished with 19 points while Deters added 16. Walsh and Brandon Runge tallied eight each.

Pana hit 16 field goals that included 10 three-pointers to keep them close.

South Central fell to Flora 60-51. The Cougars held a 9-8 opening quarter lead before Flora broke loose with a 16-7 second period to lead 24-16 at halftime. The Wolves had a 20-12 third period. South Central made a comeback bid with a 23-16 final period only to fall short.

Trent Geiler led the way for the Cougars with 21 points while Logan Lotz added 14.

In other scores, Flora defeated Vandalia Junior Varsity 65-24, Shelbyville downed Father McGivney 69-44, Father McGivney then got a win over Vandalia JV 60-42 and Vandalia beat Patoka 69-30.
