T-town Claims Win, C'land Opens Tourney With Victory

PARIS -- Teutopolis High School stepped out to a 20-13 opening quarter lead and went on to down Paris 59-43 in girls basketball action Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes' Sadie Bueker connected for seven points in the opening quarter run. She went on to lead the Shoes with 15 points. Jolene Bueker and Macy Michels chipped in with 14 points each.

S. Bueker had two blocked shots as did Michels. J. Bueker had nine rebounds while Morgan Mette chipped in with seven. S. Bueker led in steals with three.

At Sandoval

Sandoval played host to South Central and claimed a 55-23 victory Thursday.

The Blackhawks held a 14-10 first quarter lead then had a 15-4 second period to lead 29-14 at halftime. Sandoval continued its hot scoring with an 18-6 third quarter.

South Central had one player finish in double figures, Katlyn Hilmes with 15. The Cougars drop to 2-9 on the season.

At Arthur

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights Classic Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament got underway Thursday evening.

Four games were contested at two different gymnasiums.

In the West Gym, ALAH downed Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 49-31.

ALAH took a 23-15 halftime lead and had a 17-9 third quarter run.

The highlight for SSW was Megan Schlechte scoring 17 points pushing her to 1,000 points for her career.

The Hatchets drop to 5-7 on the season and will face Chrisman today at 4. ALAH is 6-6.

In the second contest, Cumberland claimed a 32-28 victory in overtime over Chrisman.

Chrisman took an 11-4 opening quarter lead and held that same margin, 17-10 at halftime. The Pirates rallied and moved ahead 21-20 going into the final quarter. Chrisman then had a 7-6 run to knot the score at 27-27 sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, Cumberland tallied a 5-1 score for the victory.

The Pirates were led by Libby Duanway with 17 points that included three trifectas in the final two quarters. Cumberland hit only three of 12 at the free throw line in the overtime period but scored three points while Jazmine Oakley hit the only field goal.

In games in the East Gym, Oakwood downed Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hamond Junior Varsity 60-26 and Decatur St. Teresa won over Shelbyville 68-18.

The tournament continues today as Cumberland meets ALAH at 2:30 p.m. in the East Gym followed by WSS against Chrisman at 4, ALAH vs. Chrisman at 5:30 and Cumberland taking on WSS at 7.

In the West Gym, Shelbyville faces Oakwood at 2:30, ALAH JV meets St. Teresa at 4, Oakwood takes on St. Teresa at 5:30 and Shelbyville faces ALAH JV at 7.

The tourney comes to a close with finals Saturday.
