Teutopolis Claims Eighth-Grade State Girls Championship

GERMANTOWN HILLS -- Teutopolis Junior High School is a state champion. The Wooden Shoes captured the championship of the Class 8-3A State Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday evening at Germantown Hills Middle School.

T-town took on Piasa Southwestern and edged out to a 6-4 opening quarter lead. T-town then went on a tear offensively with a 10-3 run to lead 16-7 at halftime.

But Piasa Southwestern came back with an 8-1 third quarter to pull within 17-15 going into the final period. T-town then got back on the right track with an 11-8 run for the 28-23 victory.

Grace Tegeler scored nine points to lead the Shoes while Izzy Hardiek chipped in with eight.

Coach Steve Fritcher's crew finished with a 24-2 record.

Third place went to Germantown Hills over New Berlin, 38-10.
