SEB, Vandalia Advance in SEB Holiday Tourney

ST. ELMO -- St. Elmo/Brownstown High School easily advanced in its own holiday boys basketball tournament Wednesday evening by bouncing Patoka 70-23.

SEB leaped out to a 21-2 opening quarter lead and the game was in the win column.

St. Elmo/Brownstown hit 59 percent from the field and 88 percent from the free throw line. Three players finished in double figures. Lewis Brown tallied 17 points to lead the way while Andy Goldsborough scored 13 and Dalton Denton 12.

In the opening contest, Vandalia downed Ramsey 87-53.

Tonight's games feature Sandoval against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher Ctiy at 6:15 p.m. in consolation bracket play and  Cumberland taking on Mulberry Grove at 7:45 in winner bracket action.

Friday's games include Ramsey facing Patoka at 6:15 p.m. in the consolation bracket and St. Elmo/Brownstown against Vandalia at 7:45 in winner bracket competition.

At Wayne City

Three more games were contested in the Wayne City Holiday Tournament Wednesday evening.

In the opener  Red Hill (Bridgeport) downed Grayville 65-33. Webber Township then went overtime before beating Gallatin County 53-48. The final contest was Wayne City over Crab Orchard 72-46.

The tournament will take tonight off and return with two games Friday, Cisne against North Clay (Louisville) at 6 p.m. and Red Hill taking on  Wayne City at 7:30. The finals will be contested Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.

Pool A standings include Webber Township 3-0, Gallatin County 2-1, North Clay 0-2 and Cisne 0-2. In the Pool B standings, Wayne City and Red Hill are both 2-0 followed by Crab Orchard 1-2 and Grayville 0-3.
