C'land, Mulberry Grove Claim Opening Wins at SEB Tourney

ST. ELMO -- Cumberland and Mulberry Grove were opening round winners at the St. Elmo/Brownstown Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.

The Pirates downed Sandoval 78-30 in the first game of the evening. Cumberland ripped off to a 27-3 first quarter lead and led 52-11 at halftime.

Three players hit double figures for the Pirates. Tyson Magee, a 6-foot-2 senior, led the way with 19 points while Myles Gerhardt added 16 and Zach Wolke 13.

In the second contest, Mulberry Grove was an 84-44 winner over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

Mulberry Grove took a 43-25 halftime lead and had a 24-13 third quarter run.

Latham tallied 32 points to lead the Aces while Criner added 15 and Scoggins 11.

CHBC was led by Keegan Martin with 10 points and Eddie Clearwater with nine.

Mulberry Grove will square off against Cumberland at 7:45 p.m. Thursday in winner bracket action while Sandoval takes on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 6:15 p.m. in consolation play.

Tonight's games feature Vandalia against Ramsey at 6:15 and St. Elmo/Brownstown taking on Patoka at 7:45.
