MAHOMET -- Effingham High School kept on track in the Apollo Conference and overall by downing Mahomet-Seymour 55-43 in girls basketball action Monday evening.

EHS and Mahomet-Seymour were tied at 14-14 after the opening quarter before the Bulldogs moved ahead 28-25 at halftime.

The Hearts then put everything together with an 18-6 third quarter and a 12-9 final period for the 55-43 win.

"After trailing at the half, our kids came out and played a great third quarter," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "Shelby Myers sparked a run in the third quarter. Carsyn Fearday did a really nice job offensively for us.

"We shot the ball well from the perimeter. We had five different kids knock down three point shots. Our rebounding in the second half was much better. It was a really good Apollo Conference road win for us. Another great team effort."

The Hearts were led by Fearday in scoring with 21 points. She hit nine field goals, including a three-pointer, and was two of three at the line. Natalie Carie chipped in with eight and Shelby Myers had seven. Myers and Bria Barr led in rebounds with five each. Carie had four steals and Aly Armstrong four assists.

EHS improves to 4-0 in the conference, 9-0 overall and return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mount Zion for another Apollo Conference road trip.
