Bradley Downs EIU in Women's Basketball

Bradley opened with a 13-0 run on Tuesday night holding Eastern Illinois without a field goal for nearly the first five minutes of the game as the Braves picked up a 67-52 win over the Panthers at Lantz Arena.
 
EIU fell to 1-6 on the season and will play on Friday night at Fort Wayne.  Bradley improved to 5-3.
 
Chelsea Brackmann, Anneke Schlueter and Danielle Brewer knocked down early 3-pointers for the Braves with Brackmann sinking a second 3-pointer with 5:56 to play in the opening quarter to give Bradley a commanding 13-0 lead.
 
Grace Lennox would finally put EIU on the board at the 5:07 mark with a driving lay-up.  Lennox would finish with 19 points for EIU but on a 8-for-26 shooting night.  As a team EIU would finish the game shooting 27 percent (20-of-74).
 
After the teams traded baskets Bradley went up by 14 points on a 3-pointer by Jailynn Lawson with 1:37 to play in the quarter.  Bradley would lead 20-7 after the first quarter.  For the night Bradley was 8-of-23 from 3-point range.  Brewer was one of two Braves in double figures hitting 3-of-6 from 3-point range to finish with 13 points.
 
EIU would play nearly even with Bradley the remainder of the game as the Panthers stepped up their defense.  After allowing Bradley to shoot 47 percent in the opening quarter, the Braves finished at 35 percent.  The Panthers forced Bradley into 20 turnovers.  Danielle Berry had five of EIU’s 11 steals on the evening.
 
Three Bradley players finished with eight rebounds as the Braves posted a 60-35 rebound margin.  Schlueter had a team high 18 points and eight rebounds for Bradley.
 
Jennifer Nehls had seven rebounds for EIU and Jalisha Smith provided six points and six rebounds off the bench.
