St. Anthony Wins Homecoming Game, Area Boys Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony High School took charge early and kept the momentum going the whole game in downing Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 71-25 in National Trail Conference boys basketball action Tuesday evening. The Bulldogs were celebrating Homecoming.
The Bulldogs stepped out to a 23-2 opening quarter lead as Alex Deters tallied eight points while Adam Levitt added six.
St. Anthony held a 39-9 halftime lead and led 53-17 going into the final period.
Three players hit double digits for the winners. Deters tallied 18, connecting on six baskets which included four three-pointers, and two free throws. Cade Walsh was just a point behind at 17 with five baskets including three trifectas and was a perfect four of four at the line. Adam Levitt tallied 10, eight coming in the first half.
CHBC was led by Marshall Nohren with eight points and Keegan Martin with seven.
St. Anthony also handily won the junior varsity contest 98-19.

At Louisville
St. Elmo/Brownstown trailed North Clay (Louisville) 15-13 after the opening quarter but led by a point at halftime 32-31.
The Cardinals came back in the third quarter and moved ahead 47-46. But SEB got everything together for the final quarter with a 27-13 run and a 73-60 National Trail Conference victory.
Four players hit double digits for SEB. Isaac Maxey tallied 21 followed by Lewis Brown 15, Nate Philpot 13 and Dalton Denton 11. SEB stands at 2-1 in the NTC, 6-1 overall.
North Clay was led by Luke Fleener with 13, Aleon Rinehart with 12 and Quincy Aldrich with 10.

At Altamont
It was a hard fought game but Altamont pulled out a non-conference win over Newton in action Tuesday evening, 68-61.
The Indians stepped out to an opening quarter 21-11 lead. Alek Biggs tallied six points while Mitchell Stevenson and Aiden Jahraus had five each. Denver Duckwitz chipped in with a three-pointer.
Jack Chapman scored eight of his team's 11 points.
Altamont held a 35-23 halftime lead. But Newton started a comeback as Zach Jansen erupted for nine points in the third quarter and had six more in the fourth period after scoring only one free throw in the opening half. He pulled the Eagles within 47-40 going into the final quarter.
But Newton couldn't overcome that opening quarter run by Altamont. Both teams scored 21 in the final quarter.
Altamont was led by Stevenson with 26, Biggs with 17 and Jahraus with 11.
Newton was led by Jansen with 16, Collin Harris with 15 and Chapman with 14.
Newton claimed the junior varsity contest 56-40.

At Dieterich
Dieterich traveled to Neoga for a National Trail Conference contest and picked up a 62-49 victory Tuesday evening.
The Movin' Maroons stepped out to a 14-9 opening quarter lead and led 28-23 at halftime. Dieterich then had a big scoring third quarter to lead 44-37 going into the final period. That's when the Maroons connected on their free throws, hitting 12 of 17.
Ryan Radloff, a 6-foot senior, scored 25 while Tyler Higgs added 12, Callaway Campton 11 and Bryce McClain 10 for the winners.
Neoga was led by Drew Ramert with 13 and Reese Johnson 11.

Cumberland edged Casey-Westfield 68-63 in action Tuesday.
The Pirates trailed Casey-Westfield 18-14 after the opening quarter. Cumberland had a 17-11 second period to lead 31-29 at halftime. Alex Talley scored seven while Zach Wolke chipped in with six in that quarter.
The two teams played to a 14-14 third period before Cumberland finished out strong as Tyson Magee went on a tear. The 6-foot-2 senior, hit seven baskets and two free throws for 15 points in the period.
Magee finished with 29 to lead the Pirates while Wolke chipped in with 13.

Windsor/Stew-Stras improves to 5-1 on the season.
