The National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament got underway Friday at Sigel St. Michael.

In the opening contest, Effingham Sacred Heart defeated Neoga 44-14. Sacred Heart held a 23-9 first half lead.

The Shamrocks were led by Lohman with 15 and Wiedman with 10. Neoga was led by Reynolds with six points.

In the second contest, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City downed Windsor 46-13. CHBC led 26-3 at halftime and never looked back.

CHBC was led by Waylon Watson, Kenny Robbins and Trevor Theis with eight points each. Windsor was led by Curry with six.

In the third contest, North Clay (Louisville) won over Sigel St. Michael 34-24.

In Saturday's games, Stewardson-Strasburg tallied a 53-31 win over Sacred Heart.

Stew-Stras had a 20-10 halftime lead then had a 17-8 third quarter run.

J. Wittenberg tallied 19 and A. Wittenberg 17 for the winners who improve to 12-0. McDevitt led the Shamrocks with 12 points.

Dieterich then defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown, 53-41.

In the next contest, South Central was a 44-30 winner over CHBC. South Central took a 33-14 halftime lead.

Three players hit double figures for the winners. Aiden Dodson led the way with 12 points while Ethan Dunn added 11 and Ethan Watwood 10. Trevor Theis led CHBC with 10.

In the final game Saturday, Altamont won over North Clay 36-22.

The tourney continues tonight with Sacred Heart against St. Elmo/Brownstown at 6:15 followed by CHBC taking on North  Clay at 7:30 in consolation bracket play.

In winner bracket action, Stew-Stras meets Dieterich Tuesday at 6:15 followed by South Central taking on Altamont at 7:30.

Friday Game

Teutopolis took a 33-29 win over Effingham in eighth-grade B action Friday.

T-town took a 24-8 opening half lead. Effingham came back with a 12-0 third quarter but couldn't make up the rest of the first half deficit.

T-town was led by Schmidt with nine points. Effingham was led by Ritz with 10.
