NEWTON -- Newton High School claimed a 56-47 victory over Paris in boys basketball action Friday evening.

The Eagles trailed Paris 9-8 after the opening quarter but came back to lead 20-17 at halftime as Nick Cohorst put in 10 points nailing four baskets that included a three-pointer, and a free throw.

The Tigers fought back in the third quarter and pushed ahead 36-34. Newton then got back on track as Ben Carr scored eight points and Jack Chapman chipped in with six in the 22-11 final period.

Cohorst finished with 19 for Newton while Zach Jansen added 11.

At Altamont

Altamont claimed a 69-60 victory over Vandalia in action Friday.

The Indians edged out to a 17-16 opening quarter lead but Vandalia came back to lead 34-26 at halftime. Altamont then had a whopping 32-15 third period and never looked back.

Alek Biggs, a 5-foot-9 junior, and Mitchell Stevenson, a 5-foot-10 senior, provided the one-two scoring punch for the Indians. Biggs had a whopping 32 points connecting on 13 field goals that included six from three-point range. Stevenson contributed 22 points as he hit nine field goals, including three trifectas, and a free throw for 22 points.

Teutopolis High School edged Breese Central 58-53 in action Friday.

The Wooden Shoes trailed Central 20-15 after the opening quarter but held a 37-31 halftime lead. Central came back with a 12-11 third quarter and both teams played to 10 points in the final period.

T-town was led by four players in double figures. Clint Weber led the way with 15 points while Dawson Smith and Eric Kremer tallied 12 each and Mitch Hardiek added 10.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took a 49-46 National Trail Conference win over Dieterich Friday.

The Movin' Maroons held a 16-8 opening quarter lead and still had a lead at halftime 26-25. Dieterich continued to lead the way with a 14-12 third period and had a 40-37 count. But the Hatchets came back with a 12-6 final period to pull out the victory.

Three players hit double figures for WSS. Isaac Kramer tallied 13 points while Chase Thies added 11 and Christian Kessler 10.

Dieterich was led by Ryan Radloff with 24 and Callaway Campton with 11.

St. Elmo/Brownstown held a 9-7 opening quarter lead and led 24-23 at halftime. Neoga came back with a 12-6 third period then had to hold off SEB in the final quarter.

Caleb Hill, a 6-foot-1 senior, tallied 13 points for the winners.

SEB was led by Lewis Brown, a 5-foot-9 senior, with 21 points. Also in double figures was Andy Goldsborough with 13.
