DIETERICH -- Effingham Junior High captured two victories over Dieterich in boys basketball competition Monday evening.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest 41-29 with a 22-10 opening half. Pontious tallied 12 for the Mustangs who improve to 6-1.

Dieterich was led by Britton and Kidd with 13 each.

In eighth-grade action, Effingham held a 22-11 halftime lead then had a 16-8 third period.

The Mustangs were led by Volpi with 15 points, Fox with seven steals and seven assists, Pals with seven rebounds and Fox and Nelson with six rebounds each.

Dieterich was led in scoring by Lidy with 15 and Budde with 10.

At Dieterich

At Newton

Effingham St. Anthony handed Jasper County two losses in competition Monday.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade game 40-20 to improve to 5-2 on the season.

St .Anthony held a 25-11 halftime lead and had a 9-2 third quarter. The Bullpups were led by Michael Martelli with nine points and Jon Willenborg with eight.

Jasper County was led by Mahaffey with seven points.

In the eighth-grade game, St. Anthony was a 47-42 winner. Jasper County took a 13-6 opening quarter lead and led 21-17 at halftime. Jasper County still had the lead going into the final quarter, 28-27.

But the Bullpups came roaring back with a 20-14 tally to pull out the five-point victory.

Josh Blanchette led the way for the Bullpups with 18 while Kyle Stewart added 14 and Brady Niebrugge 11.

Jasper County was led by Meinhart with 19 and Schafer with 10.

At Newton

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg handed St. Elmo/Brownstown two losses Monday evening.

Stew-Stras won the seventh-grade game, 40-17. Stew-Stras had a 10-7 opening quarter and a 25-7 second half.

A. Wittenburg led Stew-Stras with 18 points and J. Wittenburg with 10 as the team improved to 5-0 in the National Trail Conference and 9-0 overall.

In eighth-grade play, Stew-Stras trailed 8-6 after the opening quarter but led 15-12 at halftime and had a 12-9 third period.

Stew-Stras had two players in double figures, Vonderheide with 11 and Beals with 10. The team improves to 1-4 in the NTC, 2-8 overall.

SEB was led by Maxey with 14 points.

At Strasburg

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis and Sigel St. Michael split victories Monday evening.

T-town was a 45-13 winner in seventh-grade play. The Shoes took a 20-0 first quarter lead. Goeckner tallied 12 and Schwerdt 10 for the winners.

St. Michael was led by Niebrugge with seven.

In eighth-grade action, St. Michael took a 43-40 victory. The Sharpshooters led 27-15 at halftime then held off the Shoes in the final quarter.

Croy tallied 13 for the winners while Niebrugge added nine.

T-town was led by S. Bushur with 19 and K. Bannick with 12.

At Teutopolis
