Neoga Takes Second at CHBC Girls Tournament

COWDEN -- Decatur MacArthur claimed the championship of the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Girls Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament over Neoga in action Saturday.

MacArthur was a 66-42 winner. MacArthur ran off to a 21-7 opening quarter lead and led 39-14 at halftime. Three players hit double digits, Dees with 15, Davis with 12 and Shores with 10.

Neoga was led by Banning with 12 and Estay with 10.

In the third place contest, CHBC downed Dieterich 42-34. Dieterich held a 7-5 opening quarter lead but the two teams were tied at 14-14 at hafltime. CHBC then pushed ahead with a 20-11 third period.

Robertson scored 19 for the winners. Dieterich was led by Shadle with 11.

The fifth place contest went to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg over Sandoval, 57-32.

WSS took a 20-7 opening quarter lead and that was the game. Megan Schlechte tallied 25 for the winners while Hayes and Everett had nine each.

In the seventh place contest, Cumberland downed Ramsey 40-34. Cumberland trailed 13-9 after the opening quarter but took a 20-17 halftime lead then had a 14-2 third quarter run.

Dunaway tallied 12 while Sowers and Baker had eight each for the Pirates.

In Friday's action at the high school gym, Decatur MacArthur defeated Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 56-27 while CHBC won over Cumberland 46-34. Neoga downed Dieterich 44-35 and Sandoval beat Ramsey 60-45.

At the junior high school, Neoga defeated Sandoval 61-40 while Dieterich was a 47-16 winner over Ramsey. MacArthur defeated Cumberland 61-21 and CHBC edged WSS, 49-47.
