Wooden Shoes Champions at Salem Girls Tourney

SALEM -- Teutopolis High School claimed the championshp of the Salem Wildcat Thanksgiving Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes finished a perfect 5-0 by taking two victories in Saturday competition. T-town beat Highland 63-58 in double overtime.

The score was tied at 14-14 after the opening quarter and T-town held a 27-25 halftime lead. The Shoes took off with a 16-9 third period run to lead 43-36 but here came Highland. The Bulldogs had a 9-6 fourth quarter and the score was knotted at 49-49 sending the game into the first overtime.

Both teams scored seven points in the first overtime period. T-town then had a 7-2 final overtime to pull out the victory.

Jolene Bueker tallied 20 for the  Shoes while Sadie Bueker added 14 and Macy Michels 14.

The Shoes then pounded Centralia 64-15 in evening action. T-town held a 41-3 halftime lead.

Michels led the way with 20 points while Niemerg chipped in with 10.

T-town was followed in the standings by Highland in second, Carterville third, Salem fourth, Belleville Althoff fifth and Centralia sixth.

Joelene Bueker was named to the All-Tournament Team and was also chosen as Most Valuable Player. Other members of the team from T-town were Sadie Bueker and Macy Michels.
