Newton Second at Cumberland Boys Tourney

TOLEDO -- Casey-Westfield High School downed Newton to capture the Cumberland Boys Turkey Tournament during the weekend.

The Warriors took an 18-14 opening quarter lead and led 36-23 at halftime. Casey-Westfield then had a 27-13 third period.

Newton was led by Cohorst with 19 points.

In the third place contest, Charleston defeated Cumberland 80-74. The Trojans had a big scoring opening quarter then had to hold off the Pirates in the final period.

Cumberland was led by Wolke with 19 points and Hatfill and Cutts with 11 each.

In the fifth place contest, Dieterich won over Edwards County (Albion), 73-58. The Movin' Maroons had a 19-8 opening quarter and led 40-26 at hafltime.

Dieterich was led by the one-two scoring punch of Radloff and Campton with 26 points each. Higgs chipped in with 13.

The seventh-place game went to Altamont over Oblong 52-43. The Indians trailed Oblong 20-17 at halftime then had a 35-23 second half to pull out the win.

The Indians were led by Stevenson with 21 and Biggs with 17.

In Friday play, Charleston beat Oblong 80-47 while Edwards County edged Altamont 68-67. Casey-Westfield downed Dieterich 73-43 and Newton won over Cumberland 81-76.
