Hearts Move To 2-0 in Kerans Meet, Shoes Win Regular Season Game

NEWTON -- Effingham High School pushed its record to 2-0 at the Bob Kerans Girls Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.
The Hearts handed Altamont a 59-29 loss. EHS didn't waste any time, dashing out to a 15-8 opening quarter lead and a 38-15 halftime tally.
Carsyn Fearday led the charge with 19 points while Aly Armstrong and Natalie Carie scored 11 each for the Hearts. Armstrong hit three trifectas while Carie chipped in with two.
Altamont was led by Stone with 11.
In the second contest, Flora edged Newton 44-43. The Wolves took a 15-12 opening quarter lead and led 29-20 at halftime. Newton came back in the third quarter with a 5-2 run to pull within 31-25 and then had an 18-13 final period only to fall short.
Frohning tallied 18 points for the Eagles and had six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
The Hearts are 2-0 followed by Newton 1-1, Flora 1-1, Altamont 0-1 and Vandalia 0-1. Action continues tonight as Altamont meets Flora at 5, Newton takes on Effingham at 6:30 and Altamont goes against Vandalia at 8.

At Champaign
Teutopolis trailed Champaign St. Thomas More 12-6 after the opening quarter but the Wooden Shoes came back strong, scoring 19 points and holding the host squad to zero for a 25-12 hafltime lead.
S. Bueker went on a run with eight points. That second quarter was the turning point in the 45-37 victory.
S. Bueker finished with 15 points while Michels tallied 10 for the Shoes.J. Bueker pulled down nine rebounds, all on the defensive end, and had five steals. Mette led in assists with three. S. Bueker had two blocked shots.
