T-town Claims Three Victories at Salem Tourney

SALEM -- Teutopolis High School picked up three victories in the Salem Girls Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament during weekend action and did it with almost the same point total each game.

In the Friday contest, Salem was a 53-30 winner over Carterville.

The Wooden Shoes ran off to a 19-7 opening quarter lead and led 29-10 at halftime. Michels tallied 16 points while J. Bueker chipped in with 13 and Hemmen added 11. J. Bueker led in rebounds with nine while Michels added seven. Hemmen tallied six and S. Bueker had six. Hemmen and Mette had two steals each.

In even assists, S. Bueker, Grimes, Hemmen and Mette had three each. S. Bueker and Michels led in blocked shots with two each.

In the other contest Friday, Salem beat Centralia 39-26.

In Saturday's first game, T-town downed Belleville Althoff 54-24. The Wooden Shoes held a 33-12 hafltime lead. S. Bueker scored 16 and J. Bueker 12

J. Bueker had six boards while Hemmen added five. Hemmen led in steals with seven while M. Mette had four. Hemmen also led in assists with four.

In the second contest for the Shoes, they downed host Salem by scoring again in the 50's with a 54-36 win.

T-town took an 18-5 opening quarter lead and led 27-15 at haltime and 38-15 going into the final quarter.

J. Bueker led the way with 20 points while Michels added 12.

In the other games Saturday, Highland won over Carterville 57-49, Highland downed Belleville Althoff 52-35 and Carterville beat Centrlaia 50-32.

The tourney ends Saturday with six games. T-town will play twice, at 2 p.m. against Highland and at 6:30 p.m. taking on Centralia.

Brownstown/St. Elmo fell to Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran in the Pana Tournament during the weekend.

CORL led 20-10 after the opening quarter and 39-16 at halftime.

BSE was led by Claire Wilhour with nine points.

In other games, Brownstown/St. Elmo fell to Williamsville 64-40 and lost to Mattoon 51-34.
